xAPI (Experience API, also called Tin Can) is the newer standard for recording learning activity. Where SCORM only tracks what happens inside an LMS-launched course, xAPI records any learning event anywhere — watching a video, completing a simulation, attending a workshop, using a mobile app — as a simple statement: actor, verb, object (“Ahmed completed forklift safety module”).
Statements flow into a Learning Record Store (LRS), which can live inside an LMS or stand alone. This makes xAPI the standard of choice for blended learning, mobile training, and performance support, where learning does not happen in a single packaged course.
For localization, xAPI changes the validation checklist. Statements often contain human-readable strings — activity names, completion descriptions — that must be translated along with the content, and the LRS must receive them in the right language for each region’s reporting.
SCORM is not dead: most corporate LMS deployments still require it, and many modern courses ship both. MediaLocalize localizes and validates courses against SCORM 1.2/2004 and xAPI, including translated activity statements, and tests against your LRS or LMS before delivery.
